Join us for the first in a series of Third Thursday events. The Friendship Heights Alliance is thrilled to host a lively discussion about the intersection of community, design and retail, at the perfect location of Sheyla Vie, a woman-owned, independent clothing store in the heart of Friendship Heights. This fireside chat full of stories and insights on neighborhood vitality will be moderated by Kaitlin Calogera, Founder & President of A Tour of Her Own - the first tourism company focused on women’s history in Washington, DC. Kaitlin will be joined by:

  • Gina Schaefer, the founder and co-owner of 13 hardware stores located in Washington, D.C., Baltimore, MD, and their suburbs. She and her team of 300 have helped millions of customers shop right where they live, in their urban communities, despite continuous pressure from bigger, stronger competitors.Gina is a professional speaker and storyteller, engaging audiences on topics that include all things small business. Gina is also the author of Recovery Hardware
  • Carolyn Muraskin, the founder of DC Design Tours, is a former architectural designer, who left her drafting desk to start DC Design Tours - prefers talking about buildings to drawing them and can spot a mansard roof a mile away. She has a passion for all things brick and mortar.

These three women will share their own stories and personal experiences in the region on how ground-level retail and intentional design knit a neighborhood together and create a sense of place.
