Just in time for your Thanksgiving feast! Join us for our final Third Thursday of 2024. Washington, DC-based food writer and photographer Nevin Martell will interview Dario Arana-Rojas, chef-owner of Saoco. Dario will tell his immigrant story from Colombia to Washington, DC and his phenomenal Cuban restaurant located in The Heights Food Hall. After their discussion, Dario will give you some tips for making a memorable and unique Thanksgiving feast. Be sure to register for this event as space is limited.

Nevin Martell

Nevin Martell is a D.C.-area based food and travel writer, parenting essayist, recipe developer, and photographer who has been published by The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, USA Today, The Daily Beast, Bloomberg, BBC, AARP, Men’s Journal, National Geographic, Fortune, Travel + Leisure, Runner’s World, Michelin Guide, Plate, Washingtonian, Washington City Paper, and many other publications.

He is the author of eight books and the co-founder of the highly successful New Kitchens On The Block event series and the internationally acclaimed Pay It Furloughed initiative.

Nevin holds a master’s from The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and a bachelor’s from Vassar College. Last, but definitely not least, he is a proud poppa and husband.

Dario Arana-Rojas Bio

With an unwavering passion for delivering the best experiences in hospitality, Dario Arana-Rojas is truly passionate about the industry. Born and raised in a small town in Colombia, Dario arrived in the US with his family at age 19. From a young age, Dario fell in love with cooking, exploring a full spectrum of flavors and aromas while watching his grandmother Aura Rojas cooking the most amazing feasts he still recalls nowadays. Grandma, his true inspiration. 

His restaurant career began in Washington DC around 2005, working both the back and front of the house scaling from dishwasher to operations. Dario has contributed with his talent to some of the best restaurant groups in town.

Dario has developed a Miami-style Cuban café called Saoco Cuban Eats, that is part of a collection of amazing concepts at The Heights Food Hall in Chevy Chase MD. Saoco was featured as one of the winning contestants of the Stall Wars competition led by Common Plate Hospitality.
