Native Plants & the Waters of Friendship Heights

Friendship Heights sits on the divide between two small watersheds—Broad Branch to the east, and Little Falls Branch to the west. In the first part of this presentation, we'll look at how these two streams fared during the neighborhood's development, and at their presence in the landscape today. We'll also trace the history of water across D.C., and how a network of free-flowing creeks became a system of pipes. The second part of this presentation will focus on the native plants that have thrived in this watery region – and the myriad pollinator communities they support. By the event’s end, you'll have a better understanding of this neighborhood’s ecological history – and you'll know one way you can help restore local ecologies and create a patch of wild beauty in Friendship Heights.

By learning about native plants, we can connect with neighbors, help rebuild local ecologies, and create patches of wild beauty in Friendship Heights over time.

The panel will include Amanda Huron and David Ramos (details below).
