The history of the prominent mansion at 9 Chevy Chase Circle, recently restored by its new owner, will be the topic of the Chevy Chase Historical Society virtual Spring Lecture via Zoom on Thursday, March 16, at 7:30 p.m. The house, completed in 1893, was designed by the Chevy Chase Land Company’s leading architects as one of the first houses in its new streetcar suburb.

First called "Ishpiming" and later known as the "Corby Mansion," the estate has been renamed "The Folly" by its new owner, Adrienne Arsht.  She recognized the  potential of the long-abandoned house when she purchased the property in 2020 and undertook a comprehensive restoration of the mansion and grounds, at the same time updating them for contemporary living.  A whimsical Chinoiserie pavilion creates a new focal point at the south end of the grounds.
The Chevy Chase Historical Society invites local residents to learn more about this iconic estate from two representatives of EHT Traceries, the firm that produced an in-depth house history for the new owner. Traceries founder and president Emily Hotaling Eig will be joined by one of the firm’s architectural historians, John Gentry, to present the illustrated lecture.  The lecture is free, with advance registration required at https://www.chevychasehistory.org.
