Pop-Ups for Community Building

Pop-ups can be an effective strategy for building community and bringing people together, all while supporting neighborhood businesses and activating the public realm. The Alliance transforms underutilized spaces in the neighborhood into exciting destinations through a variety of pop-up activations. From art and retail experiences to wellness programs and community gatherings in new third spaces, these temporary installations–hosted in vacant storefronts, plazas, lobbies, sidewalks, and other overlooked spaces–bring fresh energy, creativity, and connection to the Friendship Heights neighborhood.
