Net Fiscal Benefit Analysis: Friendship Heights is Generating More Than It Receives
A net fiscal benefit analysis is a common study that looks at the financial impacts of a particular place. Working with Jon Stover & Associates, the Alliance undertook this study in 2025 to gauge how much revenue and financial benefit Friendship Heights provides back to our two jurisdictions, and how much we require from our local governments.
The results? The Friendship Heights commercial district is a large economic hub, providing housing, an employment base, and a range of services and shopping opportunities for residents throughout the region. Importantly, its compact mix of activity in a rather small, dense place creates a net fiscal impact, meaning more tax revenues are generated than spent in the district.
What are the numbers? Each year:
- Friendship Heights generates a net positive fiscal impact to Washington, DC of $13.4 million
- Friendship Heights generates a net positive fiscal impact to Montgomery County, MD of $6.4 million
- Friendship Heights generates a net positive fiscal impact to the Village of Friendship Heights of $317,000 and Chevy Chase Village of $11,000
In short, the Friendship Heights neighborhood is generating more taxes and revenue for all four local jurisdictions than it requires or needs in services! To view the full study, click here.
