Friendship Heights Alliance Announces Summer Programming to Build Community

WASHINGTON, DC, JUNE 16, 2022 ⸺ Next week, the Friendship Heights Alliance kicks off creative summer programming that will bring the community together at a vibrant street festival and an exhibition of National Park Service photography. 

The Friendship Heights Alliance is a new organization comprised of property owners and stakeholders in both Washington, DC, and Montgomery County, Maryland. Two event series kick off June 23 and June 25: 

A Photography Exhibit: “The Echoes of Ellis Island” 

The first floor of Chevy Chase Pavilion will be transformed from June through July into a gallery and cultural space showing photos taken by National Park Service Heritage Documentation Programs photographer Jarob Ortiz. The exhibit is created in partnership with Lost Origins Gallery and the Focus on the Story International Photo Festival, in collaboration with the National Park Service. This is the first solo exhibition of Jarob Ortiz’s work, presenting original large-format photographs of Ellis Island. Don’t miss the opportunity to mingle with friends over hors d’oeuvres and libations, view the photography, and meet the photographer on three dates this summer.

  • The gallery will be open from 12-3 pm each Saturday and Sunday from June 25 to July 17.

Friendship Heights Makers Market & Street Festival: Music, makers, food, fun, and art

The neighborhood is coming out en masse for a street festival and interactive cultural experience on the west side of Wisconsin Avenue from Jenifer to Garrison. The Friendship Heights Makers Market will bring together world-class musicians, artists, more than a dozen diverse makers, prepared foods, and neighborhood small businesses to create an inviting, fun experience for all ages. Come early for giveaways for kids, and don’t miss the art and interactive fun. Stop by and shop from your favorite woman-owned local vendors, or stay the entire afternoon and hang out.

The Friendship Heights Alliance is a new 501(c)6 organization created to increase collaboration amongst property owners as development throughout the Friendship Heights corridor continues in both Washington, D.C., and Montgomery County, Maryland.
