Ajith Pushpakumara and Chathura Karunapala of Booeymonger's

We are excited to highlight everyone’s favorite deli in Friendship Heights, Booeymonger, and its wonderful owners Chathura Karunapala and Ajith Pushpakumara. Booeymonger has been around since 1974, despite a short closure in 2023. When it reopened in 2024, two former employees, Chathura and Ajith, were now the owners!

In their journey to reopen this historic establishment, they found themselves at a crossroads. Initially planning to open a new restaurant with a different menu, they were deeply moved by the loyalty and enthusiasm of the Friendship Heights neighbors. Many long-time customers visited during the renovation to express their fondness for the classic Booeymonger menu.

This overwhelming support led Chathura and Ajith to the decision to embrace the restaurant’s rich history and beloved menu. With guidance from Mr. Ron Vogel, one of the founders and the first owner of Booeymonger, Chathura, and Ajith are still committed to delivering a memorable dining experience to the local community.
