James Lee & Ozzy Altun: Community Rec Center
Nestled within the Shops at Wisconsin Center on Friendship Boulevard is the Wisconsin Place Community Recreation Center, a Montgomery County multi-purpose facility that accommodates individuals of all ages. The center offers a range of activities, from fitness classes to youth sports and creative movement for toddlers.
James Lee, who has been working for Montgomery County for 19 years and at Wisconsin Place for eight years, is the recreation specialist of the center. "What I love most about my job is working with the awesome staff, and being able to see members of the community grow over time from kids to adults with families of their own," Lee said. Ozzy Altun, the recreation coordinator at the center, takes great pleasure in knowing that through the center, they can take care of people and do good for their community.
What do James and Ozzy wish people in the neighborhood knew about the center? “That we are here!” The Wisconsin Place Community Recreation Center has year-round programs for DC and Montgomery County residents as young as 3 months and as seasoned as 99 years old. Since the center is slightly tucked away, people often do not know it exists, James said. They want to welcome more members so people know the recreation center is here for them to enjoy. Memberships are free in 2024 for Montgomery County residents and $20 a month for DC residents.
