The Black Women's Agenda

The Friendship Heights Alliance is proud to spotlight The Black Women’s Agenda, Inc., a powerful voice for advocacy, equity, and generational progress that has called Friendship Heights home for the past 17 years. Founded in 1977 during the International Year of the Woman, the organization champions the rights of Black women and their families, with a mission that uplifts communities across the country.

Although its reach is national, the Black Women’s Agenda is deeply rooted in the local community. With many of its collaborative partners based in the DMV, Friendship Heights offers the perfect central location for connection and growth. Headquartered in AdvantEdge Workspaces, a flexible office and coworking space in the Chevy Chase Pavilion, the Black Women’s Agenda has found that the neighborhood’s welcoming atmosphere and strong sense of place make it an ideal setting for hosting important meetings and events, welcoming leaders from Congress, nonprofits, and beyond.

One of the organization’s most celebrated traditions is its Annual Symposium Town Hall, a signature event that brings together high-profile leaders, entertainers, and changemakers for a powerful day of conversation and connection. Known for drawing a full house year after year, the event reflects The Black Women’s Agenda’s role as both a respected voice and a cultural force.

The organization partners with 24 national groups, including sororities, faith-based networks, professional associations, and organizations focused on mothers and families. All Black women in Congress are honorary members, underscoring the reach and respect that The Black Women’s Agenda has earned. Through advocacy focused on health, education, and economic well-being, the organization continues to shape a more just and equitable future for all.

Through all the shifts the neighborhood has seen over the years, the Black Women’s Agenda has remained a steady presence. Its commitment to staying in Friendship Heights reflects its belief in consistency, community, and showing what true leadership looks like in action. The organization’s belief in consistency, connection, and the value of having a home base that feels both welcoming and familiar.
