Open Streets: Wisconsin Ave
On Saturday, November 5, 2022, Wisconsin Avenue transformed into a pedestrian-only promenade for the first Open Streets event in Ward 3. Hosted by the District Department of Transportation (DDOT), the stretch from Tenley Circle to Western Avenue closed to cars and came alive with community activity.
Friendship Heights businesses spilled out into the street with activations, pop-ups, and demonstrations. Residents enjoyed free fitness classes, live music, art installations, and open streets for walking, biking, and playing. The Shops at Wisconsin Place also hosted a fall festival on the plaza, adding to the vibrant atmosphere.
This event was part of a global Open Streets movement to reimagine public space, promote wellness, and support local economic development.Open Streets is coming to Wisconsin Avenue this fall!
